The SawStop Story: How SawStop Began

Hello Dear Customer, I’m writing to share with you the story of SawStop—a story that’s deeply personal and rooted in a mission to protect. SawStop isn’t just a company; it’s a promise we made over 20 years ago to every woodworker. In 1999, in a simple barn, Dr. Steve Gass, a woodworker like you, had an idea that could change everything: What if a table saw could sense danger and stop before it caused harm? This idea became our obsession, and in 2000, SawStop was born.

Since then, we’ve saved thousands of fingers and countless lives. But the problem of table saw injuries persists. Every year, nearly 49,000 people in the United States suffer blade injuries—134 every single day*. Without our Active Injury Mitigation (AIM) system, these numbers would be even higher. Our technology turns what could be a devastating injury into a mere scratch. This isn’t just about innovation; it’s about protecting you.
